Sick Certificate (med3)

You should not require a sick certificate from a clinician for the first 7 days of your sickness. However, your employer may require you to complete a self-certificate (SC2). For any illness lasting longer than 7 days you may need to see or speak to a clinician to obtain a sick certificate or for subsequent renewals. All requests for sick certificates must be submitted via online form.

Please do not ask your GP for a sick certificate if you are off work because of 'Coronavirus'. You can apply for an isolation note to send to your employer as proof you need to stay home. Your employer can check the validity of an isolation note by using the check isolation note service.

Statement Of Fitness For Work 'fit note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
