In addition to GP consultations the practice adheres to the General Medical Services Contract for the provision of healthcare services:
There are lots of ways to get help to quit, if you use stop smoking medication and personal support from the NHS, you are 4 times more likely to succeed.
Choose from the following, but face to face is recommended.
Face to face with a stop smoking specialist - Harinder is our specialist stop smoking advisor from the Bexley Stop Smoking Service. She runs a clinic on Tuesday afternoons at the Burnt Oak Lane surgery offering one-to-one support. If you are unable to attend this clinic then we can refer you to an alternative clinic within the area. To be referred please contact reception asking for your details to be passed on to Louise.
Face to face with your pharmacist - Please contact your local pharmacy to see if they offer this service.
Web support in your home - Prefer to use your mobile phone or email? Try the "together programme". They will support you through texts and messages and send you a pack. Sign up at http://www.smokefree.nhs.uk/ or to chat online click the "chat to an advisor" link on the website.
Telephone helpline - For a quick conversation with an advisor, call the helpline from a landline for free on 0800 022 4332. lines are open 7am - 11pm 7 days a week.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse for a telephone consultation to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not always a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
